EPA Selects Wasatch Integrated Waste Management District to Receive Recycling Infrastructure Grant

Wasatch Integrated Waste Management District (WIWMD) is pleased to announce that we have been awarded a Solid Waste Infrastructure for Recycling grant from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). The grant award is nearly $3.5 million that will go towards expanding our compost facility and curbside programs.
The five specific tasks WIWMD will be working on are:
-
- Expansion of the compost facility through additional aerated static pile capacity
- Expansion of curbside organics collection in WIWMD cities
- Launch of a contamination detection pilot program
- Expansion of education and outreach efforts
- Establishment of baseline waste diversion rates
It’s expected that these projects will be fully implemented by 2028. We are looking forward to advancing organics recycling in the district to promote a circular economy. This grant will significantly help us increase organics recycling and in return provide high quality landscaping material for our residents.
