Wasatch Integrated Waste Management District Announces New Executive Director

Wasatch Integrated Waste Management District (Wasatch) is pleased to announce the appointment of Preston Lee as its new Executive Director, effective July 1, 2025. He succeeds Nathan Rich, who is retiring after 26 years of dedicated leadership and service.
Mr. Rich was appointed as Executive Director of Wasatch in May 2001. He was responsible for overseeing integrated solid waste management, environmental compliance, and ensuring municipal solid waste was always viewed and managed as a resource. Under his leadership, Wasatch became a model for innovation and environmental stewardship in the handling of municipal solid waste. Mr. Rich navigated Wasatch through many different phases, from Waste-To-Energy to building the current Material Recovery Facility that processes residential and commercial recycling.
“Leading Wasatch for the past 25 years has been the honor of my professional career,” said Mr. Rich. “I’m proud of what we’ve accomplished and confident that Wasatch is in excellent hands with Mr. Lee.”
Mr. Lee brings 23 years of experience with Wasatch, beginning his career in 2002 as the Environmental Engineer. He was later promoted to Landfill Manager and has served as Operations Manager since 2019. His technical expertise, operational leadership, and deep institutional knowledge of Wasatch’s mission uniquely qualifies him to lead the next chapter of the organization’s growth and environmental commitment.
“I’m honored to step into this role and build upon the strong foundation laid by Nathan,” said Mr. Lee. “Our work is vital to protecting public health and the environment, and I look forward to continuing that mission with our capable and experienced team.”
The Chair of Wasatch’s Administrative Control Board, Mayor Clark Wilkinson, extends his gratitude to Mr. Rich for his many years of service to Wasatch. “Nathan has been a leader in the solid waste industry and has provided dedicated service to Wasatch throughout his tenure. I
would like to welcome Preston as the new Executive Director and have absolute confidence that he will lead Wasatch with commitment and professionalism going forward.”
Wasatch Integrated Waste Management District operates a landfill and material recovery and transfer facility in Layton, Utah. Wasatch serves the residents of Davis and Morgan Counties, except for Bountiful City. Wasatch is a Utah Special Service District, formed in 1984 by the Davis County Commission to meet the growing municipal solid waste needs of the county.
